Far Closer, by Andreya Triana
Far Closer by Andreya Triana, released 07 February 2011 1. Far Closer (Radio Edit) 2. Far Closer (Mr Scruff Remix) 3. Far Closer (Tokimonsta Remix) 4. Far Closer (Live) Andreya Triana returns with one of the standout tracks from her critically acclaimed debut album, “Lost Where I Belong.” “Far Closer” combines Triana’s beautiful, slowburn vocal and intelligent lyrics with one of Bonobo’s key productions. Coming on like a more melancholy, reined in take on the Motown blueprint, this is a tune with an uplifitng, memorable chorus and no shortage of that rare commodity – genuine soul. Co-written with Fink, running away from love has never been made to sound more attractive. First remix comes from longtime Triana collaborator Mr Scruff who layers up wobbly technoid keyboard flaps around her voice and syncopates them with static. It’s an uncharacteristic mix except in one aspect – it rocks. Second mix comes from the much talked about Tokimonsta aka Jennifer Lee, a Los Angeleno who uses her classical training to create the kind of vast, anmbient soundscape she wraps Andreya in here, just enough crack left in the slap of her drums to make it clear where she’s coming from. The package is rounded out by a live version of the tune, recorded with Fink and Bonobo playing guitar and bass respectively. 2010 has been a big year for Andreya. She has toured the world with Bonobo, sang live on the Guardian podcast, had an iTunes Single of the Week, and done a showcase for HBO, as well as selling records and making fans wherever she goes. Next year should take things even further, with a huge tour scheduled and recording for her next album set to commence.
