Metanoia, by Arthur Melo

Metanoia by Arthur Melo, released 08 October 2019 1. Tejo 2. Aroma 3. Solitude 4. Entre os Dias 5. Socorro 6. Olha o Que a Cidade Fez Comigo 7. Cambio 8. Una Canción 9. Normal 10. Albano Between the breaks of his first tour of Spain and Portugal, in July 2019, Arthur Melo composed most of the songs on the second album Metanoia (2019). Arthur had not planned to make a record but the process happened naturally and during the trip singer, songwriter and instrumentalist joined band and road partner Pedro Theodoro, and Metanoia emerged from that encounter and the trip. "The record is more raw and naked than the first two" and he adds: "in the previous ones (EP Agosto and LP Nhanderuvuçu) I recorded in the studio with Léo Marques and we had a band to complement, so it was more natural to color plus the songs, at Metanoia it was just me and Pedro, guitar and percussion and a microphone ", says Arthur. Metanoia comes to help consolidate his style, but with sounds a little more intimate and confessional than his previous work, Nhanderuvuçu, released in 2018. The sounds and the lighter chromatism of Metanoia are accompanied by a transformation (albeit discreet) of its sonorous color. They are joined by a bossa in English (Solitude) and "Aroma" (much more of a music atmosphere than a song) is something that generates a unique attraction in the listener, inviting him to quieter stops: something that seems to be one of Arthur's marks. The title of the new LP is still curious, but it was not chosen at random: Metanoia means the action of changing your mind or thought, that is, a form of conversion. Such a gesture - radical - proposes to us perhaps a point of change in our beliefs and actions in our troubled century. In "Aroma" the verses seem clear in this sense: "What madness is this? / Finding you here / Such a big world / And our gaze colliding / In this fickle city / Our instigating love / Pulsing heart / This incessant flame". Metanoia result of this creative process with Pedro Theodoro, partner in the shows of the European tour. It is with this musical proposal that calls us to change (even if it is only internal) that Arthur Melo transcends boundaries and makes us feel pulsating life through a renewed, reflective look ready to see and hear beyond the raw surface of contemporary times.
