- og:descriptionIt’s been a while since I posted my initial Access Point script for the Raspberry Pi and the RTL8188CUS based nano USB wifi adaptor. I still receive requests for enhancements to the original still functioning script, now I was not looking to do anything with the script as I no longer use my RPi’s with Wifi instead opting for wired Ethernet connects instead. However, I have finally buckled and produced a separate enhanced version of the script. The new script allow setting up the RPi as a client or an access point, using static or DHCP and has a network scan option that provides a simple output to see what networks are in the locality and if they are open or secured. This is all offered to the user via a command line menu. Both the Ethernet and the Wifi adaptor are bridged together like before and so only a single IP address is required on the RPi and devices on either interface can connect to the RPi using this one IP address. The testing has not been extensive and there may be some bugs that need ironing out so please be warned, I suggest you use a fresh install of Raspbian and not look at adding this to an existing prized image at least not without backing it up first ;-). The same technique as before to get the latest version of the script follow the instructions below: sudo wget —no-check-certificate “http://bitbucket.org/idkpmiller/installation-scripts/raw/master/rtl8188cus-manager.sh” Be careful if ‘copy n pasting’ as the dashes and quotes in the command above may get mucked up! Next command sets the script file execution permissions sudo chmod +x rtl8188cus-manager.sh And finally use this command to execute the script: sudo ./rtl8188cus-manager.sh Ciao Paul
