Practice is the best way to get kids improve in math. Practice can take place anywhere and anytime. When you are with your child in the car, supermarket or even in the park, always ask your kids math questions. In the car, for example, I would ask my kids how long would it take us to get to your grandmother's house if I maintain 50 M/H speed and the distance is 75 miles. In the supermarket, I would ask them how many cans of beans can we buy if we would like to spend 7 dollars and the can price is 80 cents…etc. Such questions would serve two purposes; one it will teach kids the importance of math in life. Second, it will force your kid to use addition, multiplication, subtraction and division and that by itself the best way to learn. The good thing about this approach is that, as a parent, you don't have to schedule time for it or even take time from your daily schedule to practice math with your kids. It will happen naturally and before you know it, your kids are loving it. Another source of practice is the computer and internet. The Internet is full now a days with website that provide games that teach math, just Yahoo the subject and you will know what I mean. If your child is like mine, where it is hard to keep him focus while linked to the Internet, then you can easily download one of these games or software on your machine. This way, your child can do his practice without being on the Internet and without being distracted by a flashy advertisement. My child is using a software that I found so helpful. You can even get the software for free and not pay for it unless you see that your child had benefited from it. The software cost less than 10 bucks and the best thing is that I can leave my child on the computer practicing his math without my full supervision.
