Hiding from the Nazis in a pit for 9 months during WW2

The city, once home to 25,000 Jews in 1939, witnessed the survival of only 30. Malka's father was fatally shot during the initial violence, urging her mother to "save the children" before his death. Forced into hiding, including months in a small pit, Malka lived in constant fear. Her story, a testament to her mother's fierce will, is one of the few accounts that survived the campaign of mass murder.
