And what happened next would shatter the sense of safety in the community. She was brutally assaulted and murdered. Just twelve days earlier, another violent crime had taken place not far away and fear quickly spread around the community. Were these cases connected? Investigators would eventually determine that they were. But the person responsible has never been identified. More than five decades have passed. Early DNA testing came up short—but there is still physical evidence.
