you can't Accually you can thaks to the Ambitions expansions pack. Become a Detective (i am not sure if you have to get to a certain 'level' in your career. Just simply click on the door you wish to break into (it only works if no one is at home), then click break in. It is very amusing but the downside is almost every time the sim who lives there comes home before you can break in. And of course you have to stop.
