For me a good way is to be extremely good (doing chores, getting good grades, etc.) for say maybe a week, and at night keep on giving them hints that you want it or just flat out ask them for it, that way they will have the rest of the night to think about it. If it doesn't work in a week then keep working on it until they say yes. Then if they are thinking about saying yes then make a bargain with them like doing chores for a month, doing good in school, etc.
