Cargo Cult, by Aedena Cycle
Cargo Cult by Aedena Cycle, released 29 September 1999 1. Diving Girl 2. Modulor Man 3. Weep For Me 4. Approx. 3. Min. 5. Tone Program 6. Home Recording 7. The Glipp 8. 1/3 Forward 9. 2/3 Forward 10. Restart "Cargo Cult" is the Tromsø-artist Gaute Barlindhaug's second album as Aedena Cycle. It is inspired thematically by religious cults who surfaced on the Pasific Islands after Second World War, but also old german silent movies. Half of the tracks on the album where composed for a screening of the Walter Ruthman 1927 silent movie "Berlin - a big city symphony" at the Tromsø Internasjonal Film Festival. The album is a quantum leap forward from the debut, with a further development of the sofisticated soundscapes from the debut. One foot is in Detroit, and the other foot is firmly planted in the arctic ambient tradition, and all the time with Gaute's characteristic syncopated rhythm-structures and jazz-feel. In adition to the electronics, the album includes guest musicians on guitar, vibraphone and cello.
