As you might have noticed, GrabCAD is all about getting feedback to learn from our fellow engineers which direction we should go. You tell us what you need and we deliver. Not surprisingly, one of the most requested features was to view DWG files on GrabCAD Workbench. This leads to the question which industries are heavily relying on DWG files and why? Engineers still love 2D The fact that so many users requested the availability to view the DWG files clearly indicates that there are still many industries who value 2D drawings over 3D. Civil engineering is one such industry where 2D will thrive for plenty of years to come. It's rare in civil engineering that contractors or architects collaborate in other formats than DWG. It almost doesn't make sense to have plan or section drawings in 3D. Most of the confirmation drawings with the builders are almost always requested to be in 2D, with all the standard patterns and distances from grid lines that everybody is used to.
