Friend Coda Chroma's fourth album LUMINOUS AS IT IS takes its name from a line in Mary Oliver's poem "Summer Morning" and is a snapshot in time of Kate's perpetual songwriting practice and her deep connection to nature. The album is steeped in themes of consumerism, environmentalism, friendship, and death, expressed through Coda Chroma's signature poetic, abstract lens. A companion piece to Coda Chroma's 2023 LP release Dreamself, LUMINOUS AS IT IS features nylon string guitars, vintage synths, and compelling vocal melodies. Although the songs move through a range of musical genres including jazz, pop, and psychedelia this album is undeniably the most folky Coda record so far. Coda Chroma (Kate Lucas) teamed up once again with Kiwi producer Damien Charles (William Crighton, Melody Pool) and musicians Nat Lewis (Ainslie Wills), Holly Thomas (Husky, Quivers), Isaac Barter (Didirri, Charm of Finches), to record LUMINOUS AS IT IS. The result is a deeply immersive listening experience, for music lovers who crave harmonic complexity, nuanced production, and authentic songwriting.
