If I catch anyone lying to me...as an author or in a face-to-face conversation...that person is forever suspect to me. I used to say I only read autobiographies...but that denotes an entire life story. I started using the term memoir for any true story that is not covering an entire lifetime. I uploaded my own memoir online in 2008 (link on my Substack profile). It is a fantastical true story...but I would never expect anyone to take my word for it. This is why I included photos and documents that substantiate my story...with an offer to let anyone inspect the original documents at any time. I can't even read one of the documents because it's in Spanish. However, I trust that the Mexican cops recorded 100% truth back in 2005. Anyone unwilling to do the same, is IMHO, inventing their tale. Before I developed discernment (a long time ago) I was fooled by fake memoirs a few times, and I felt cheated and angry.
