I remember not being a huge fan of Orphan 55 when I watched it live. I think it was because of the creatures. For some reason it bothered me that the human race evolved into those monsters. It is very bleak and helps to push the message of the program, but I think that was one step too far. I remember rolling my eyes when it turned out that these monstrosities were once the human race. However, on rewatch I appreciated it a little more. I enjoyed the speech and the message of the episode. I also kind of like the whiplash of tones that it has. It helps to show how we view these problems now. We paint over the bleak future with these bright colors and happy lies, so that we can ignore the dim future that awaits us. It is still not one of my favorite episodes, but I would not say it is the worst either.
