Tell You / Fan Out, by INTROVERTED FUNK
Tell You / Fan Out by INTROVERTED FUNK, released 10 June 2025 1. Tell You 2. Fan Out Star Creature is proud to introduce LA’s own Introverted Funk with their vinyl debut coming June 2025. The group has been making waves throughout Southern California and beyond over these past few years and are ready to make things physical. The group formed in 2018 as a partnership between multi-instrumentalist and producer Daniel Valle with songwriter and vocalist Veronica Rosa. Driven by a shared love of vintage vinyl and the most intimate moments of music discovery, Introverted Funk was born from the idea that even introverts can have something to shout from the soul. They’ve self-released a handful of singles over the past few years and have now teamed up with Chicago’s Star Creature record label blast off into the physical world. Label-head Tim Zawada shared “I’ve been following the group from afar on IG and Spotify since their first single but it felt totally cosmic last year when Aaron Frazier of Durand Jones and The Indica-tions reached out and provided an intro. They had been touring and opening for bands like The Altons, Sinceers, King Pari and 79.5 so we had a lot of mutuals between us. They were in Chicago last year and we got to hang out a bit and chop it up – then a few months ago I got a Zip file with some demos that just blew me away.” The A Side was recorded to analog tape at Blac N Gold Studios in Whittier, California and features and array of vintage gear that gives it that authentic disco flavor: Juno 106, KORG PolySix; Sequential Take 5, ARP Odyssey, Rhodes, 80’s Japanese Strat, Sir Marcus’s Miller Bass V5. The band was inspired by the 70s Disco Funk of Rod Temperton as well as City Pop greats like Tatsuro Yamashita both in sound and feeling. This song is about finding your person and allowing yourself to be free and open with love and communication. The B Side came to life after repeated sessions “fanning out” over their favorite LPs from Candido, Heatwave and Niles Rodgers. “We went into the studio and wrote and recorded this in one day – We wanted to put our modern spin on these classic funky, fun and energet-ic dance floor delights.” The attention to detail continues on this side as this one was rec-orded to 2” Tape at Moneycat Studios in Hawthorne, CA using an array of 70s studio gear plus an arsenal of vintage synths and other instruments. Both sides mastered by Stones Throw engineer Jake Viator. ***INTL BUYERS: SHOP LOCAL TO AVOID VAT AND CUSTOM FEES***
