8x plus 14 equals -10 what is x? - Answers

Though i passed my GCSE Maths in 2008, i think i know the answer. See my method below:8x+ 14= -10Add 10 to both sides to get rid of the -10. This leaves you with;8x+ 28= 0You can guess that x needs to be a negative number that you can multiply by 8 to get -28.7x8= 28, so -7x8=-28Therefore;x=-7Interesting but unfortunately wrong, 8x-7 =-56 (maybe I'm wrong though I did my A-levels over 20 years ago)8x + 14 = -108x = -10 - 148x = -24x = -24/8x = -3
