If you have a US ruler (inches) then multiply the number of inches by 2.54 to give you centimeters (cm). to convert inches to meters (m) then multiply the inches by 0.0254. once you have the number of cm and need to convert cm to meters then divide the number of cm's by 100. that result will be in meters. 1m=100cm 1cm=10mm 1in=2.54cm 1km=1000m example 1: so if an object is 10 inches long, then multiply 10 by 2.54 to give you 25.4cm. to get meters from that you divide 25.4 by 100...or 25.4/100...25.4/100 equals 0.254meters...also FYI since there are 10millimeters (mm) in 1 cm, then you multiply 25.4*10 to give you 254mm example 2: if an object is 5 feet 7 inches...the first thing you want to do is to convert that to inches. 5 feet * 12 = 60 in. Add the 7 additional inches from the beginning and so 5 ft 7in = 67in. now convert 67in to cm: 67*2.54=170.18cm. if you want to convert that to meters (m) then divide by 100: 170.18/100 =1.7018meters.
