I've been thinking about that line about your painter friend all week since I read this piece. I felt the same way about drawing and eventually got to a point where I felt pretty confident about my skills but no longer enjoyed it. Now I'm enjoying painting and while I'm not necessarily new at it, I'm not "perfect" at it either. (The strange thing is that in the past I used to throw away all of my paintings b/c they lacked the precision of my drawings. Teachers would also insist that I would enjoy painting but I just couldn't get past the perfectionism just yet.)
