The thing is you don't need to. Just have your sim click on a dresser and click plan outfit. From there you can add different outfits to all sets of clothes, i.e; everyday; formal wear; swimwear; and so on. Click any of the tabs and on the left of the blue box there is a tab you are automaticallly selected on. This will be showing your sims clothes you have planned for him/her. Underneath is another which i think has the number to next to it so you can select new clothes for that particular clothing section.
