The Stone Axe, along with the Stone Hoe - and, apparently, the Umbrella - is part of the Better Farming Tools that you get after completing page 1 of Moneywell's Big Book of Survival (Plant and Harvest a Crop, Harvest an Egg). Be aware, however, that there is a bug which will prevent you, under certain circumstances, from getting the Stone Axe. The source of the bug is unclear, but it seems to be related to the presence of either certain tools or certain resources (possibly Hardwood) in your inventory. If you are hit by this bug, you will need to craft a Metal Axe at the forge inside the temple in order to be able to collect Hardwood and Sandalwood. The tricky part is, Metal Axes require hardwood to be forged, which may seem to pose a chicken-and-egg problem; however, it is possible to obtain Hardwood by asking chimps to collect Wood for you. After you get enough Hardwood, you can craft a Metal Axe, which will allow you to gather more Hardwood through conventional means.
