How do you fix error 8002F997 on ps3? - Answers

There seems to bea trend of people having the same issue with the error code 8002F997 which ofcourse states on the ps3 that it is data corrupted. I took time ot search for a fix to this issue to find that no one really had a fix, except for blaming there internet connection. Understandable if you were experincing the same issues on your pc as well..But in fact that is not the case..This is issue that sony was nice enough to tell me i would have to send in my ps3 for service, could be a system fix in which sony could fix, how ever they seem to want just money rather offering a knowledge support team no reading a script and using the internet to research the issues, and then giving no answer other than to send it in..Well that not acceptiable to me, and should not be acceptiable to the consumer period. The issue is that there is a corrupt system file on the ps3 itself. In order to fix ths issue, you will simply need to make sure to back up your saves downloaded games etc..Once you have baked up your system, you will need to go to system settings and sleect the format option..I know it says quick, but do not slect the quick format, as this is not a fix for corrupt data..Select the formatt, and then it will say something like 3 and a half hours to complete..Do not flip out..Simply start the format process and allow it to continue until it is about 7% complete, this will over write the corrupt data on the drive and allow the access of all files needed to complete the update. Once you are at 7% siply select the cancle option, it will restart the system, and when the ps3 restarts it will tell you that the drive must be formated. Again do not flip out..Simply go through the process as it will only take a couple of seconds to complete. The ps3 will then restart and boot as normal, be sure to remove the usb after the system boots, and then reinsert the usb flash drive, and proceed to the update as normal. Your update should complete as it should.
