This is one of the most honest, articulate, and courageously personal things I’ve read in a long while. The Redcrosse knight’s encounter with Despair has haunted me too — but you’ve given it flesh again, not just as a literary episode, but as a lived metaphor. The tether between body and spirit, between despair and its dance partner — redescription — is drawn here with such grace it hurts. And that line: “I have added life to life.” That may be the first real definition of art I’ve ever believed.
