Weapon mastery has been a bugaboo - especially the ones that require constant saves and remembering the world state from turn-to-turn. I feel like masteries could have been baked into the classes like fighter if they wanted those rather than becoming a core part of weapons with rules spread all over the place. It feels really confusing that an additional layer of complication was added to the game in this way which is a requirement to study. It's something I think would have been fine for a video game or something tracked by a computer, but not for a tabletop game. That and because weapons now have masteries that interact with base classes, I have to revise every single third-party weapon that I have if I want to use masteries. What a headache.
