Our family took an Amtrak trip to visit family for Christmas in Albuquerque in 1986. We took the Coast Starlight from Seattle to LA, then transferred to the Southwest Chief for the leg of the journey from LA to Albuquerque. We had a great time, saw some beautiful scenery and we didn't have to rotate drivers around the clock for 28 hours, as we do when we drive to Albuquerque. Unfortunately, that route is no longer available from Amtrak, the last time I checked. Mrs. "the Knife"
