Sending <3 I love The Straight Story. As an early 80s kid I had very free rein on what I was allowed to watch. I saw Twin Peaks and Eraserhead as a child and they didn't frighten me, they fascinated me. I watched The Elephant Man age seven, alone in a room at my mum's friend's place -- this was more alarming for me, but I have such a vivid memory of it. And I also most remember, and most adored, the kids' books that held the thrill of a darkness in them (Tomi Ungerer, for example). I love this idea of looking after the audience, and maybe that's why I loved to be with those films and shows and books even though I was 'just' a kid. Thanks for this post. x
