Spring Formal, by Isaac Gillespie

Spring Formal by Isaac Gillespie, released 31 May 2024 1. Amelia 2. Same Shit 3. The Cyclist Today I’m releasing my new EP Spring Formal. Spring Formal like a dance in high school. Boys asking girls to put on little costumes and make a show of being theirs. Spring like the time of year when new things grow. Formal like being formed. But also like spring forward, like daylight savings. It’s time to move ahead. It’s a concept EP, I wanted to right about the teen boy mentality that I see a lot of people stuck in. Like, if you think about human development there’s a certain amount of ego/entitlement that’s healthy to have. But obviously if we want to become fully actualized humans we have to move beyond that and into awareness of others. I wanted to write about this because I was that teen boy, this is my development. I wanted very badly to untangle the knot and be free of my male entitlement. How do you untangle the knot? You have to go deep into where the knot is tangled. I wanted to deal honestly and compassionately with the parts of myself that were (are) still stuck. . So I wondered, what’s the last the moment where it’s appropriate for a person to act and feel the ways that I’m seeing? What’s the age at which people should be growing out of this and how are they getting stuck there?
