- ?subject=Facebook&body=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2F161796243843515_963624105791623%20-%20%0A%09Pacific%20small%20states%20workshop%20on%20resilience%20in%20skills%20development%20for%20women.The%20Commonwealth%20of%20Learning%20%28COL%29%20%23COL4D%20and%20the%20Pacific%20Centre%20for%20Flexible%20and%20Open%20Learning%20for%20Development%20%28PACFOLD%29%20recently%20held%20a%20three-day%20regional%20workshop%20on%20Women%2C%20Skills%20and%20Resilient%20Livelihoods%20in%20the%20Small%20States%20of%20the%20Pacific%20in%20Nadi%2C%20Fiji.%20The%20event%20brought%20together%2025%20participants%20from%20nine%20countries%20%E2%80%93%20Fiji%2C%20Kiribati%2C%20Nauru%2C%20Papua%20New%20Guinea%2C%20Samoa%2C%20Solomon%20Islands%2C%20Tonga%2C%20Tuvalu%20and%20Vanuatu.This%20workshop%20was%20a%20collaboration%20between%20COL%20and%20the%20Partnership%20for%20Open%2C%20Distance%2C%20and%20Flexible%20Learning%20in%20the%20Pacific%20project%20%28funded%20by%20New%20Zealand%E2%80%99s%20Ministry%20of%20Foreign%20Affairs%20and%20Trade%29%20%23MFATNZ%20and%20aimed%20at%20strengthening%20the%20capacities%20of%20both%20government%20and%20NGOs%20concerning%20conceptualisation%20and%20execution%20of%20training%20using%20open%20and%20distance%20learning%20related%20to%20various%20aspects%20such%20as%20human%20rights%2C%20financial%20literacy%2C%20e-commerce%20and%20leadership.%20The%20workshop%20also%20introduced%20the%20participants%20to%20certain%20design%20and%20creative%20thinking%20concepts.Ms%20Annabelle%20Scotty%2C%20Director%20of%20Youth%20Affairs%2C%20Nauru%2C%20said%2C%20%E2%80%9CThe%20ideas%20emanating%20from%20the%20workshop%20are%20very%20interesting%20from%20both%20government%20and%20NGO%20sectors%E2%80%99%20perspectives%3B%20we%20can%20use%20these%20for%20youth%20empowerment%20back%20home.%20I%20am%20thankful%20for%20the%20opportunity%20and%20looking%20forward%20to%20future%20collaborations.%E2%80%9DA%20key%20highlight%20of%20the%20workshop%20was%20a%20keynote%20lecture%20by%20Dr%20Sandeep%20Mysore%20from%20the%20University%20of%20New%20South%20Wales%2C%20Australia%2C%20on%20%E2%80%98Digital%20Social%20Innovations%20%28DSI%29%20for%20facilitating%20women%20and%20youth%E2%80%99s%20participation%20in%20the%20digital%20economy%20of%20the%20Small%20Island%20Developing%20States%20%28SIDS%29%E2%80%99.%20In%20addition%20to%20introducing%20the%20notion%20of%20digital%20social%20innovation%2C%20he%20shared%20case%20studies%20of%20impact%20sourcing%20and%20mentoring%20networks%20as%20illustrations%20of%20successful%20DSIs%2C%20especially%20in%20opening%20opportunities%20for%20women%20and%20youth%20residing%20in%20remote%20locations%20and%20facing%20multiple%20marginalisations.Dr.%20Rajni%20Chand%2C%20Director%20PACFOLD%2C%20echoed%20the%20sentiment%20when%20she%20commented%2C%20%E2%80%9CThe%20workshop%20was%20a%20timely%20and%20worthwhile%20workshop.%20It%20was%20heartening%20to%20see%20representatives%20from%20all%20Commonwealth%20countries%20in%20the%20South%20Pacific%20representing%20governmental%20departments%2C%20NGOs%2C%20and%20persons%20with%20disabilities%20%28PWD%29%20in%20the%20same%20space.%20The%20opportunity%20to%20idealise%20the%20country%20needs%2C%20identifying%20the%20strategies%20to%20combat%20the%20problems%2C%20and%20working%20on%20project%20proposals%20in%20collaboration%20with%20COL%20that%20can%20improve%20the%20lives%20and%20livelihood%20of%20girls%2C%20women%20and%20PWD%20is%20one%20of%20the%20first%20of%20its%20kind%20in%20the%20region.%E2%80%9DCOL%E2%80%99s%20Director%3A%20Skills%2C%20Dr%20Jyotsna%20Jha%2C%20said%2C%20%E2%80%9CWith%20the%20active%20and%20engaged%20participation%20of%20representatives%20from%20a%20cross-section%20of%20government%2C%20universities%2C%20and%20civil%20society%2C%20the%20workshop%20has%20contributed%20towards%20opening%20up%20potentials%20for%20collaborative%20approaches%20and%20creative%20skills%20development%20learning%20solutions%20for%20women%20and%20youth%20in%20the%20region%20sharing%20common%20concerns%20around%20gender%20and%20climate%20change.%E2%80%9D%23Resilience%20%23SkillsDevelopment%20%23WomenEmpowerment%20%23PacificSmallStates%20%23PACFOLD%20%23SustainableDevelopment%20%23DigitalInnovation%20%23YouthEmpowerment%20%23GenderEquality%20%23OpenDistanceLearning%20%23SkillsForWork%20%23EmpoweringWomen%20%23ClimateResilience%20%09%0A%09
