Fall Into The Sun (feat. Emma Lucia), by Asta Hiroki
Fall Into The Sun (feat. Emma Lucia) by Asta Hiroki, released 20 June 2025 1. Fall Into The Sun (feat. Emma Lucia) 2. Fall Into The Sun (Instrumental) ‘Fall Into The Sun’ is the latest single offering from Asta Hiroki lifted from his forthcoming second solo full length album via Folded Music. It’s a psychedelic jazz / soul arrangement in waltz timing where the producer has shown yet another intriguing and as yet unexplored corner of their sonic universe. A well crafted song with a vintage production feel to the expertly woven tapestry of velvety rich melodies and grooves are really brought to life by some standout musical performances throughout. Emma Lucia (Jed and Lucia, Ubiquity Records) and her melodious bittersweet falsetto provides a stunning focal point with ambiguous lyrics akin to those of 60’s era Pink Floyd and a timbre reminiscent of Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack). Her words glide over a bed of slow grooving sax and keys lines wonderfully orchestrated by Hiroki to push and pull tastefully into the desired position. Longtime drums and percussionist collaborator Robbie Hookins appears on sticks and brushes providing the lackadaisical yet intricate rhythms, truly in his element with this kind of open spaced jazz arrangement. Alongside him providing the low end is the Japan-based virtuosic Ren Nelson on bass, who shines from the start with his groove and embellishment before stepping up for a fantastic outro solo that lifts the track exponentially higher before its finale with Thundercat-esque funk-infused leads and harmonics providing an entirely different and unexpected treat for the listener. Collectively its a triumph of style and substance, a very human and soulful track that definitely broadens the producer’s musical catalogue and horizons, yet still fits like a glove alongside more electronic elements in his repertoire. Asta Hiroki elaborates on the production of the track: “Creating ’Fall Into The Sun’ was a long process, this is a track that I was continually tweaking and reworking through different versions before settling on its final soul / jazz form. Production and arrangement-wise I think it was heavily influenced by the nuance and gossamer elegance of Kadjha Bonet’s psychedelic soul output, plus several 60’s artists like Nico, The Moody Blues, and Pentangle. I tried to achieve a result of a really human and relatable track, but with a nice degree of ambiguity and added depth upon further listens -these are my favourite kind of listens personally. Despite remote recording Robbie and Ren’s musical chemistry blew me away, while Emma’s vocal strikes the perfect balance between ‘beautiful’ and ‘haunting’ for me.” Since his debut release in 2017 Asta Hiroki has long been considered a notable figure across multiple independent music scenes and turned heads at key tastemakers and outlets across the industry. Seeing regular support as a staple of BBC6Music, FIP, BBC, JazzFM, and KCRW. Winning further plaudits from national paper The Guardian for his composition work and XLR8R, Dummy Mag, CLASH, Magnetic Mag Exclaim! on the music media side. Not to mention the multitude of editorial placements on Spotify and AppleMusic across Jazztronica, All New Jazz, Fresh Finds, Butter, and more.
